MV Endeavour

When the new pilot vessel for Port Marlborough required a major electronics overhaul, Bart Meltzer from Advance Trident seized the opportunity analyse the needs of the vessel and present a quote.  Against heavy opposition from Garmin and Raymarin, Bart won the quote with this Simrad electronics package:

Electronics Package:

  • x2 Simrad NSO Navigational Processors, 1 Radar, 1 GPS Chartplotter with Radar Overlay
  • x2 Simrad OP40 Remote Controllers
  • GS15 5Hz GPS Antenna
  • RC42 Rate Compass for Chartplotter, Radar Overlay and 10 Target Mini Arpa on Radar.
  • x2 Large 15 Inch Navpixel Multi Function LED Monitors.
  • Simrad TX06S-1 6Kw Open Array Radar.
  • Simrad NEP-2 Interface Box.

Bart describes the beauty of this system as the complete reassurance it offers - in the unlikely event a Navpixel Monitor or Simrad NSO Processor should fail, the second Simrad NSO processor can take over.  The diversity of the Simrad NSO system enabled many other Simrad systems to interface with it, including the vessel's existing AIS.

Some Feedback:

"Recently Port Marlborough purchased the “Tauranga 2” from Port of Tauranga as a replacement for their 8 m Naiad vessel. With the pilot boarding grounds being moved further seaward they needed a larger and more stable vessel to cope with the Cook Strait conditions.  The Tauranga 2 was purchased and brought to Picton and was given a major refit before being put in to service. This involved a re- engine of the vessel with two 550 HP Scania engines, a major electrical overhaul, hull repairs and a full paint job.

The Navigation equipment was up for replacement and after much deliberation and negotiating it was decided to go with Simrad equipment.

I personally spent many hours going through the pros and cons of many different types of equipment but always ended up back at Simrad. Some time was spent deciding which would be the very best we could get for the vessel whilst remaing inside the budgeted price for electronics.  I spent a considerable amount of time with Bart Meltzer going through various options and eventually went for the Simrad NSO equipment on 15inch screens along with TX06s-1 radar. The equipment was installed locally and all went to plan. We had some minor teething problems at the setup which can be expected.

Bart and his team were exceptionally helpful with resolving these small issues very quickly. Scott was down in the Nelson area and came across to Picton. He did some fault finding with the setup and it was a pleasure to see Scott working on this equipment .With a software upgrade and a trip around the harbour setting up some of the finer details we really started to see the equipment working and displaying its full potential.

As the master of the vessel I was after the best navigation equipment for Port Marlborough and to suit specific tasks for our operation. I believe we have a well set up vessel now with top class equipment and I could not be happier with the ability of the Simrad equipment to give us what we set out to achieve."
